India @ 70: "Folk Dance" Program in Ashgabat and Mary
As part of India 70 and the Silver Jubilee of the diplomatic relations between India and Turkmenistan celebrations, Indian Ministry of Culture , sponsored “Folk Dance” theme “Nepanagar Jagruti Kala Kendra” to Turkmenistan. The first performance was at “Watan Kino Theatre”, Ashgabat on 23rd November, 2017 and second performance was at State Drama Theatre named after Kemine, Mary on 24th November, 2017.
The event was inaugurated with lighting of traditional lamp by and H. E Dr. T V Nagendra Prasad, Ambassador of India to Turkmenistan and Mr. Gurbanmyrat Meretaliyev, , Deputy Minister in Ministry of Culture, Government of Turkmenistan followed by their addresses.
The theater was packed to capacity at both the cities. The Ashgabat event was attended by, in addition to local Turkmen and officers of the Government of Turkmenistan, Heads of Foreign Missions, Members of Diplomatic Community, officials of the Embassy and their family members, and Indians working in and around Ashgabat
The folk dance performances were highly appreciated and received commendations from the people of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat and historical Mary City. The folk dance sequences presented by the group reflected the Indian folk art very effectively. The energy in the performances demonstrated the spirit and the happiness of the people while celebrating various social events in rural India. The mix of folk and some Bollywood music during the performance enthralled the audience. The live Dhol sequence was the highlight of the performance. The event was well covered by local Audio-visual and print media. The artists and Ambassador gave interviews to the State Television on the occasion.
